.vc Domains Now Publicly Available
The country-code top-level domain for St Vincent and The Grenadines, .vc, is now entering its "landrush" registration stage, when any applicants are allowed to register .vc Domain Names. The initials have become associated with the phrases "virtual community" and "venture capital", so there is expected to be a rush to secure the most relevant .vc domain names (such as forum.vc and capital.vc).
This follows other "alternative" uses of several country-code top-level domains. For example, .tv, the ccTLD for the island nation of Tuvalu, is popular with television broadcasting companies. .fm and .am (ccTLDs for the Federated States of Micronesia and Armenia, respectively) are now being marketed to radio stations. Other examples of ccTLDs being used as other acronyms include .cd, .la and .nu.
