In 1995 a Tribeca resident bought the domain Tribeca.net. In 2006 the Tribeca Network launched an official website about a short-film festival (the Tribeca Network). Appropriate trademarks of domains were registered on both sides however the Network sent a cease-and-desist letter in 2006. In late January of this year a federal lawsuit was filed and since then the resident has countersued for harassment. The case is still in dispute.
