Telecom Italia Goes Mobile With dotMobi

First mobile operator in the world to sell .mobi domains to customers- New 2007 offering allows businesses to 'go mobile'- Extending new offerings to subscribers through tim.mobi and alice.mobi

dotMobi, the company behind the first and only Internet address designed specifically for mobile phones, today announced an exclusive partnership with Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM), making them an official worldwide registry for the dotMobi domain. TIM will become the first mobile operator in the world to sell .mobi Domain Names exclusively to customers, and to extend their mobile Internet offerings to subscribers through new TIM .mobi sites. This will create a business model that has the potential to open new revenue streams to mobile operators.

The tim.mobi site at http://tim.mobi shows how organizations can expand their current web offerings via mobile web sites which are simple to develop and -- via the use of set, but open, standards -- improve the mobile web experience for millions of users worldwide. On the site, customers can also view information on special offers, see the latest mobile phones, download multimedia content and manage their online profiles.

"We are delighted TIM is embracing the mobile Internet and encouraging businesses to develop mobile versions of existing web sites," said Neil Edwards, CEO of dotMobi. "The open dotMobi standards enable web developers to create content which is just as exciting and usable on a mobile as it is on a PC and we hope this encourages many businesses to adopt the mobile Internet."

TIM is also launching its tim.mobi and alice.mobi sites, effectively extending their reach to current and potential TIM subscribers and offering new mobile specific content. Further, they have worked with their customers, including Ferrari, to launch attractive new sites like Ferrari.mobi.

Tim.mobi is compliant with dotMobi's style guides, which offer best practices for content developers and service providers to ensure web sites can be accessed by any mobile phone.

Later in the year, TIM will launch a new offering designed to let businesses "go mobile" via the development of .mobi versions of existing .com sites The service will include a Domain Name registration service, web site development, hosting and customer care and support. In support of this initiative, tim.mobi will showcase potential uses of .mobi sites such as e-movies, ticket booking and intranet services. A demonstration of ferrari.mobi and alice.mobi, the most popular web site in Italy, will be showcased at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, February 12-15.
