SEDO to Increase Domain Selling Fees
If you need to sell a domain name the likelihood is, you will seek help from one of the big auction providers out there. One of the popular options is Sedo, where you can list domains for sale and have people bid on your portfolio, then consequently sell to the highest bidder.
However the company has made an announcement that they will increase their fees, meaning that a typical sale on Sedo will now carry a 15% commission fee as opposed to the old 10% fee. The commission is still 10% if the domain is parked and sells for a fixed price however. It is thought that encouraging people to use the “fixed price” option and actually put a price tag on their domains will encourage buyers’ interest and increase sales on Sedo in the long run.
Sedo CEO, Tim Schumacher has said:
"Commission prices for domain sales will be determined by the promotion channel through which a sale originates and range from 10% to 20%."
These increases bring Sedo almost in line with their biggest competitor Afternic, who have similar fees for these services. On the plus side however, Sedo have decreased their minimum fees for a number of ccTLDs from $150 to $50.
The official announcement from Sedo states that they have been working hard on new features that customers have requested and that they are making changes to the platform to give Sedo customers the tools that they need.
“We’ve been working hard on features you’ve requested and want to empower you with the platform and tools you need. We’re proud to announce the next generation of Sedo’s Domain Marketplace, designed to give you more efficiency, connectivity, and visibility. While you may have already noticed some recent improvements to our site, major changes will be launched on August 1, 2011”
The efficiency of the system is expected to improve, with streamlined purchasing making it quicker and easier for buyers, as well as integrated WHOis lookups and new certification options allowing members instant access to their accounts without compromising on security.
They are also adding a number of features meaning that you can now “like” domains on Facebook and share them with your network and there is also an in-browser search for Firefox being added, making it even easier to search for your chosen domain. In addition to the new features they have added 24 new TLDs to their list, so you can now sell a wider variety of your portfolio using Sedo’s platform.
