.org Domain Names

Around 2, 000 .ORG domain names become available on a daily basis. This is due to registrants allowing them to expire or being unaware of domain names up for renewal. The Domain Names can be exploited for economic gain (not taking into account their actual use or meanings). The sophisticated, automated, and increasingly popular process of registering domains could have serious consequences on .ORG domain holders.

PIR (the .ORG registry) has set up a public awareness campaign to prevent this kind of activity (protectyour.org). Proactive and preventive measures set up include five steps set up by PIR to reduce the possibility of losing the domain. PIR have provided a booklet entitled "5 Simple Steps to Protecting Your .ORG Domain Names" which is available in English and several other languages (print or PDF).
