With the race continuing for companies to announce their chosen New TLD we have put together a list of just a few of the New TLDs that have already been declared, with a run down on each!

.shop – There is currently two applicants for this TLD, which is predictably designed for use by the retail sector! The TLD is designed to make things easier for customers and businesses alike, removing the confusion between brand names that are the same across different sectors. This will in turn increase the amount of relevant traffic that arrives at a company’s website by identifying the website that is the retail brand.

.horse – Possibly a little more niche than .shop! The Dot Horse Project is designed to provide a reliable Internet Community for all things equestrian. The idea is that the TLD will be regulated by members of the Equestrian Community so that everything held within the .horse namespace will be monitored closely by people who are committed to the welfare of these animals. The TLD’s supporters already include Pony Clubs located all over the US, as well as the Kentucky Equine Humane Center.

.real – The dotReal Domain Campaign is an initiative that has been launched by the Global Real Estate and Technology Consortium to launch a TLD designed for use by the public and global real estate industry. The .real TLD is designed for all types of real estate including commercial, rental, timeshares as well as land. The dotReal Campaign are currently welcoming all ideas for .real, saying they are “open to all suggestions”!

.gay – This TLD currently has two applicants, .GAY Alliance, and DotGay. It was also recently announced that a third person had launched a trademark application for .gay, although he is affiliated with neither groups. The two applications for this TLD have both been developed by groups of gay and gay-friendly entrepreneurs and the TLD hopes to form a “New Internet community of self-identified gay businesses, individuals and organizations”. Both applicants have declared that they will channel a portion of their profits into non-profit LGBT organisations for the greater good of the community.
