UK's first mobile car insurance quote goes .mobi!

With the explosion of the use of smartphones, companies are quickly coming up with mobile solutions to make our lives easier when on the go, and Swiftcover.com" is no different. The first insurance company to think about the ability to purchase insurance on the go, the brand, inspired by the seventy thousand customers that log onto the site via mobile on a monthly basis, have come up with a dedicated site for these customers.

Unlike other companies who require users to download an app, the sites are tailored to recognise that the customer is browsing from a mobile device and return a page for the correct screen dimensions and specifications, minimising page loading time and reducing the need to scroll to display all the information.

Chris Noakes, business analyst at Swiftcover.com", commented:

“With people ever dependant on their mobile devices, it seemed an obvious choice for swiftcover.com to develop an innovative and intuitive process for the customer to get a car insurance quote, as well as buy a policy while on the move. Of course you can access other insurance providers on your mobile, but this is the first time an insurance provider can offer a full quote and buy experience rendered specifically for your mobile device. "

Noakes continued, “The project had its challenges, however by using the latest web browser technologies and our in house expertise we were able to deliver a product that we are very proud of and one that would be expected from a leading online insurance provider. This is innovative in the sense that people do not necessarily want to download an app to get a quote for insurance, but want to be able to see the prices quickly and easily with little wait time."

The company have been in the forefront of mobile use in the past when they launched Swiftcover.mobi, a domain that allowed users to get a quote in less than sixty seconds from a mobile device. The .mobi domain was once the preferred choice for accessing information on a mobile, but as the smartphone industry has developed, the extension has become less widely used, with people favouring apps and mobile sites.
