The one-millionth .ru Domain Name has been registered by a company called Cyberbox, which seems to deal in domains for commercial use. The millionth domain was "hanti.ru". Souvenir coins and t-shirts have gone on sale to commemorate the occasion, which is a landmark in the rapid expansion of the Russian TLD.

It is now the eighth most popular country-code top-level domain, being slightly more popular than the Canadian .ca TLD, and slightly less than the American .us domain. .de (Germany), .uk (the UK) and .cn (China) remain the top three most popular ccTLDs, at 11.1 million, 6.2 million and 6.15 million registrations respectively.
