Telecom Italia Team Up With dotMobi

The company behind the first and only Internet address designed specifically for mobile phones, dotMobi, today announced an exclusive partnership with Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM), which makes them an official worldwide registry for the dotMobi domain. Therefore TIM will become the first mobile operator in the world to sell .mobi Domain Names exclusively to customers, extending their mobile Internet offerings to subscribers through new TIM .mobi sites, thus creating a business model which could open new revenue streams to mobile operators.

The tim.mobi site at text demonstrates how organizations can expand their current web offerings via mobile web sites which are simple to develop and — via the use of set, but open, standards — improve the mobile web experience for millions of users worldwide. The site can provides information on special offers, the latest mobile phones, access to multimedia content and management of online profiles.

Neil Edwards, CEO of dotMobi had the following to say on the matter:

"We are delighted TIM is embracing the mobile Internet and encouraging businesses to develop mobile versions of existing web sites. The open dotMobi standards enable web developers to create content which is just as exciting and usable on a mobile as it is on a PC and we hope this encourages many businesses to adopt the mobile Internet."

TIM is also launching its tim.mobi and alice.mobi sites, which will extend their reach to current and potential TIM subscribers and offering new mobile specific content. On top of this they have worked with their customers, including Ferrari, to launch attractive new sites like Ferrari.mobi.

And later in the year, TIM will launch a new offering designed to let businesses "go mobile" via the development of .mobi versions of existing .com sites. The service will include a Domain Name registration service, web site development, hosting and customer care and support. In support of this, tim.mobi will showcase potential uses of .mobi sites such as e-movies, ticket booking and intranet services. A demonstration of text text

"The simplicity and usability of dotMobi’s standards enables businesses to easily extend their reach. We are delighted to be offering our customers this unique opportunity," said Gaetano Liggieri, Head of Business Innovation and Technical Solutions, TIM.

The exhibit will take place at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona in Hall 7, Stand 7B62.
