IFPI Tries to Win Back Domain
After the embarrassing takeover of IFPI.com by The Pirate Bay, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry has reported the music, video and software piracy haven to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) on charges of cybersquatting. Despite the fact that the IFPI hasn’t used the domain since March 2007, they have still filed a complaint, and claim that the Domain Name Registration was in bad faith.
A spokesperson for The Pirate Bay argued that they haven’t done anything illegal or immoral with the domain; instead, they’re intending to use it for their own organisation which has the same initials, the International Federation of Pirates Interests [sic]. The Pirate Bay is clearly hoping that they will be allowed to keep the domain, but in view of past cybersquatting cases, chances are not looking good.
