ICANN has always welcomed public feedback from the domain name industry, but moves are afoot to improve the way that people can leave their comments, and ICANN says that the weight comments are given in discussions about how ICANN policy should be changed will be increased.

At the moment, there is a period during which forums are open for members of the public to offer their comments and suggestions about a particular policy which is up for review. Unfortunately, because these periods are not very well-publicised, the use of the forums has fallen into decline, many comments are not useful, and those which are do not hold enough sway in the current process.
