ICANN Orders Transfer of All Red Register Domains and Strikes More Registrars for Bad Behaviour

ICANN has ordered all domain names registered at Red Registrar to be taken over by another domain name registrar after they were found to have violated several rules of the Registrar Accreditation Agreement.

ICANN – who are the governing body responsible for the assignment of domains and IP addresses – de-accredited Red Registrar and shut them down on September 26 this year for neglecting to;

  • 1. Pay accreditation fees
  • 2. Maintain accurate contact information
  • 3. Provide public access to data on registered names
  • 4.Operate a working webpage.

Red Register had roughly 7,000 global top level domain names and they are no longer permitted to register or manage gTLD registrations. They have to also pay back the money they owe to ICANN which is apparently over $15,000.

In other domain registration news ICANN has also taken action against two more registrars for breach of accreditation. According to Domain Name Wire blog, CodyCorp.com has not correctly listed owner information data and has failed to provide public access to its whois data. Lastly, ICANN de-accredited Desto! for failure to pay its accreditation fees.
