A high concentration of domain registrations are still found in cities such as Munich, Hamburg, the Rhine and Main areas, as well as the Rheinland, (all located in West Germany).

Foreigners are also heavily investing in.de domains. At year end 2005, 160,000.de domains were registered by foreigners. A year later, it had climbed to over 580, 000, (an increase of over 266%). This can be attributed to growing interest and importance in the domain industry, especially considering some domain investors own portfolios with over 10,000 domains. Saudi Arabia is first place on the domain owners list.

Even in Germany there have been impressive regional changes. Nürnberg improved in position (from number 16 to number 2) this year.
