Most registrants seem to be registering the names for brand security, since generic TLDs such as .com, and specific country-code TLDs, seem to be preferable. Some are worried that most .eu domains will never be developed into proper websites, but will be parked indefinitely, simply to prevent others registering them.

Germany leads the .eu domain registration market, with over 800,000 domains registered since the TLD was released. Citizens of French Guiana have registered a total of eight .eu domains.
