dotMobi, Powers Live Sites, From Varied Businesses
Official mobile phone Internet address registry, dotMobi, has generated more than 330,000 name registrations to date. Within three months of open Domain Registration, numerous popular, practical and niche .mobi sites have become live worldwide.
As companies and content developers recognize the benefits of providing on-the-go mobile users with information and services, the dotMobi Site Showcase provides consumers with a sampling of .mobi sites in three categories -- Corporate, Information and News and Entertainment and Travel. Businesses large and small are encouraged to submit .mobi sites for display in the Showcase and to be featured as the "dotMobi Site of the Week" at http://dotmobi.mobi/siteform.
Neil Edwards, CEO of dotMobi remarked, "In the short time that .mobi Domain Names have been available to the public, we have been pleasantly surprised by the number of sites going live. We expected that large companies would see the benefit in building a .mobi site to provide their customers with a great mobile experience, and we're confident we will continue to see more .mobi sites from major organizations in 2007. What was somewhat unexpected - and great to see - is the high-quality content that has been developed by smaller, niche sites utilizing the .mobi domain as a tool for building a presence and providing information and services to mobile users."
Content developers and .mobi domain owners have an opportunity to showcase their sites at the first-ever Webby Mobile Awards, which recognize the growth and quality of content being developed for mobile devices. These awards will be presented at the 11th Annual Webby Awards in June 2007. Sites built on .mobi's open standards can be submitted for consideration in three categories: Listings and Updates, News and Entertainment and Mobile Marketplace (for sites selling products and services). Mobile sites can be submitted until January 26, 2007, at www.webbyawards.com/entries.
In addition, dotMobi has implemented what it says, is a first of its kind premium name application process. Organizations and content developers are invited to submit proposals for four premium .mobi domains: "news.mobi", "ringtones.mobi", "sports.mobi" and "weather.mobi". The deadline for applications is February 16, 2007. To apply for these premium .mobi domains, visit http://pc.mtld.mobi/switched/premiumsales.html.
According to dotMobi (the informal name of mTLD Top Level Domain, Ltd.), a joint venture company based in Dublin, Ireland with offices in Washington, DC, it is leading the development of Internet usage from mobile phones by switching on the .mobi Domain Name. dotMobi endeavors to ensure that services and sites developed around .mobi are optimised for use by mobile devices. dotMobi is backed by mobile operators, network and device manufacturers, and Internet content providers, including Ericsson, GSM Association, Hutchison 3, Microsoft, Nokia, Orascom Telecom, Samsung Electronics, Syniverse, T-Mobile, Telefonica Moviles, TIM and Vodafone. dotMobi is also a sponsor of W3C's Mobile Web Initiative.
