dotMobi Reveals Record-Breaking Auction Results

The domain registry dotMobi has revealed the results of its record-breaking domain name auction, powered by Sedo.com.

The auction featured one hundred Domains up for sale, and resulted in 95 of those being taken by enthusiastic bidders. Previous dotMobi sale records have been smashed, with Music.mobi being sold for $616,000 and Games.mobi for $401,500. The previous record for a .mobi domain name was $200,000, for Flowers.mobi, which was sold in 2006.

Bidders from more than 25 countries participated in the auction. Others of the most desirable domains included Sports.mobi (which sold for $101,000), Movies.mobi ($82,000), and Videos.mobi ($51,000). The auction was part of dotMobi's continuing controlled release of the most desirable domain names. CEO Trey Harvin added that in the coming year, domains pertaining to travel, entertainment and "adult industries" will also be released to the waiting public. It is likely that prices will continue to climb, as interest in mobile technologies can only grow over the coming months.

The .mobi auction was so popular that Sedo.com, who hosted the auction, experienced a rare occurrence of traffic load issues. The auction had to be extended for an extra three hours in order to make up for users' lost time and to make the auction completely fair.
