Domainmonster.com supports IPv6 and AAAA Records.
Domainmonster.com is proud to announce our new IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) support and AAAA Record integration. You can now use the new records from within your member’s area. These records can be used against any domain names from today.
IPv6 is a new version of the existing IP system (v4). IP is the system behind sending data across the Internet. Each device online has an IP address assigned to it, just as buildings have addresses applied to them or websites have domain names, so that data can be sent to the correct person or device. However, IPv4 is restricted in terms of the number of addresses it can assign. The capacity only reaches around 4 Billion. It might seem like a huge number, but when you consider the growth of Internet usage and coverage, this capacity could be reached in a relatively short space of time. IPv6 however has nearly unlimited capacity for addresses.
IPv4 Addresses are made up of 4 sets of digits separated by full stops e.g.:
109.68.38.20
IPv6 Addresses are made up of 8 groups of values of 4 digits separated by colons (:) e.g.:
2001:4da3:08f4:1033:0000:0000:0000:15d3
You can then abbreviate the address by removing any 0s at the start of a group and replacing sets of groups that contain only 0s with two sets of colons (::)
2001:4da3:8f4:1003::15d3
Fears that the growth of the Internet could be severely stunted by a restriction on IP addresses can now be put to rest with the global implementation of IPv6.
Other advantages IPv6 include the ability to connect directly with mobile devices, multicasting, support for DNSSEC, Location Data and the ability to increase the size data packets by 4 times! Multicasting refers to the ability to send packets to multiple destinations in one operation, which is not currently possible using IPv4, speeding up the submission of packets and conserving processing power. There is also the fact that IPv6 uses an automatic configuration process which should allow devices to connect to an IPv6 enable network without the need for any third party to be involved. An address will be assigned to the device that is totally unique as it will be based on another unique variable, the device’s MAC address.
Managing DNS records against your domains is easy from your Domainmonster.com Member’s Area. We give you complete DNS control over your domains. You now have the ability to add and remove AAAA records from your member’s area too! With the implementation of IPv6 likely to speed up over the next few months we wanted all our customers to be one step ahead and already be ready for the IPv6 revolution.
