DNS Geographic Implications

An article entitiled Geographic Implications of DNS Infrastructure Distribution by Steve Gibbard of the Packet Clearing House has been published by Cisco in The Internet Protocol Journal. The author examines root serve distribution throughout the world and explains DNS with regards to operational aspects. The most critical part of the DNS is the collection of Root Servers. For protocol reasons, there are only 13 logical root servers, but a system of more than 100 servers has been deployed using a technique known as anycast.
