Dallas Cowboys' Attorney Clueless About Domains

American football team the Dallas Cowboys ashamedly handed back Cowboys.com after their attorney admitted that he hadn’t realised that he’d agreed to pay $275,000 for the domain name. The domain was sold at auction by the domain registrar Moniker; their spokesperson, Monte Cahn, wrote that the attorney was "shocked when he received the purchase agreement" and discovered that he would be expected to pay up $275K, instead of the $275 he was expecting.

The Cowboys have been laughed at heartily from all quarters of the domains industry, as well as by American football fans. Many were surprised by the decision to hand the domain name back, even at the actual selling price, as it could have been extremely valuable for branding purposes. Cahn wrote, "my guess was that they probably sell $275K in popcorn and beer in one game and they were foolish not to look at their brand in a different way."
