Chinese Domain Registrars Join Self-Discipline Convention

More than 40 Chinese domain name registrars have opted to sign a self-discipline convention, to help them solve the problem of unbalanced and non-standard services in the Domain Name service market.

The new agreement, named "The Internet Domain Name Registration Service Self-Discipline Convention", is designed to prevent illegal behaviour and protect the interests of domain registrants. The China Network Information Centre will be responsible for supervising the implementation of the convention by each of the 40 service providers and all of their domains.

The Convention features eight commitments to which all the participating service providers have agreed, including promises not to misguide the public or to pester them with excessive numbers of faxes, telephone calls and emails. The 40 participating companies account for two-thirds of Chinese domain registration services, and manage about 90% of Chinese-registered Domain Names. It is expected that the majority of Chinese domain name service providers will soon opt to sign the Convention.
