Chinese Government Suspends Blogs with Personal Domains
Blogs with individual Domain Names which are hosted in China are not allowed, according to the experience of a blogger called zousuper, whose blog is hosted in Shanghai. His blog was suspended because the Shanghai Communication Administration claimed that blogs run by individuals (rather than hosted on a blogging community such as LiveJournal, or Google's Blogger service) were too much like forums, which are also banned.
The justification for this seemed to be that bloggers would be unable to constantly monitor comments and delete unacceptable ones, despite the fact that no such activity is instigated officially by most blogging communities. The blogger was "operating a service" by running a blog on which people could comment, and the Administration claims he should have applied for special certification.
One comment that blogger Yee notes to have come from the Shanghai Communication Administration: "Other person post fake info or illegal info on blog comments, because it's published via your platform, you are responsible for it too." The representative of the Administration went on to tell the hapless blogger that his blog would be suspended for at least two months whilst a review was carried out, and that there was nothing he could do to speed up the process.
Yee's full blog entry about the ban can be found here.
